The pretty town of Grand Fougeray with its ancient fort La tour Du Guesclin is a short drive or bicycle ride away where you will find restaurants a pharmacie, bank, maison de la presse, coiffures, supermarket and some superb boulangeries and patisseries. The Chere valley is ideal for picnics, gentle walks, hiking, and cycling, the area is also famous for fishing available at local rivers and canals, Carp, Roach, Pike and Mullet are some of the most popular catches.
A short drive away are the small towns of Pierric, Chateaubriant, and Bain-de-Bretagne where you will find most amenities including swimming pools and horse riding and the Chateau at Blain is definitely worth a visit. A longer drive will take you to the ancient walled city of Guerande and it’s famous salt marshes used for the delicious Brittany Butter, or chic La Baule and St. Brevin with its three miles of golden sands where you will find award winning Atlantic beaches. The lovely French towns of Rennes (capital of Brittany) Angers, which houses the largest tapestry in the world and… the only Cointreau factory!… Nantes (gateway to Muscadet country) and St-Nazaire to name but a few are within an hours drive.
In the Western Loire some exceptional events set the rhythm of life: the 24hr Le Mans race, the Vendee Globe, the Folle Journee, the Cadre Noir in Saumur, the Grand Parc at Le Puy du Fou set in 40 acres, and Cinescenie south of Cholet in the Vendee are only 70 Km from Nantes, Futuroscope at Poitou in the northern part of Poitou Charente is where you will find up to the minute Scientific Technology. The 450 Km of coastline provides an unrivalled richness of maritime landscape, famous seaside resorts, traditional fishing villages, and salt marshes. Inland the countryside is just as impressive. The network of navigable waterways offers the chance to holiday on a barge or to explore the towpaths on foot, horseback or by bicycle. Its cultural heritage has plenty to offer castles, museums, churches…The Loire is synonymous with wines and good food. The Region has a great many vineyards, some well known, some ripe for discovery. Muscadet sur Lie, Anjou-Villages, Saumur-Champigny, the perfect accompaniment to the local produce.
The ferry port of St.Malo and Dinard airport is one hour’s drive through some of the most beautiful parts of Brittany on route to the Western Loire and just under 45 minutes you have the airports of Nantes and Rennes and the La Gare TGV. You will find us situated between Rennes and Nantes approximately 6Km from the N137, take exit Grand Fougeray.
